A. Physical Hazards

Sharp edges or points

  • Risk: Possible cuts or punctures, especially if a component breaks.

  • Consequence: Minor to moderate injuries.

  • Measures: Round off sharp points and test structural integrity.

  • Risk Management: All medal components are tested manually for strength. Sharp edges are smoothed during assembly. Pins are chosen with safety clasps to reduce puncture risks.

Choking hazard from small parts

  • Risk: Small detachable components may pose a choking hazard.

  • Consequence: Serious risk for young children.

  • Measures: Secure connection between all components using tested assembly methods.

  • Risk Management: Medals are not intended for children under 5. All brooch mechanisms are tested with pull force and drop impact.

B. Chemical Hazards

Heavy metals (nickel, lead, cadmium)

  • Risk: Exposure may cause allergic reactions or long-term harm.

  • Consequence: Skin irritation, allergic response.

  • Measures: Use of certified lead- and nickel-free materials where possible.

  • Risk Management: Silver and bronze variants are specifically made from lead-free and nickel-free alloys. Other metal parts are coated with ProtectaClear anti-tarnish and allergy-safe coating. All non-stainless parts are clearly labeled. Care instructions are included to preserve the coating.

Allergic Reactions

  • Risk: Allergic response due to trace nickel or unknown metals.

  • Consequence: Itching, rash, or swelling.

  • Measures: Minimize use of reactive metals.

  • Risk Management: Metals are sourced from known suppliers. Customers with metal sensitivities are encouraged to ask questions before ordering. Allergy-related information is transparent and easily accessible.
